Students in grades K-3 read through this year's State of NH Ladybug Picture Book Award nominees. After reading all 9 nominees, students each voted for their top choice! Our voting results were sent to the NH State Library for counting.

Each week students work on skills in the library that center around the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) stanrdards, and blend with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) four domains: Think, Create, Share, and Grow. Student activities in the library further focus on the six AASL foundations: Inquire, Include, Collaborate, Curate, Explore, Engage.

Students in grades K-4 have the opportunity to choose activities each week that center around these standards, domains and foundations. Learn more about the ISTE Student Standards and the AASL Standards Framework for Learners. 

So it's a remote learning day at the Library, now what? 

We can still enjoy reading and exploring! I have put together a few ideas below that include "old school" options (no power required) and online activities (with adult permission). Feel free to mix and match activities between both lists!

Old School Activity Choices (no power required). Choose 1 or 2.

• Read for 20 minutes and...
  • Find a "book buddy" to read to aloud (a favorite stuffy, pet, sibling, or yourself!)
  • Create a cozy space for reading - a blanket fort, a cozy nest of pillows, or pick what feels comfortable and fun to you. 
  • Write or draw a "book review" for the most recent book you finished, or "book prediction" for the book you are reading now. 
    • Book Review: Rate 1, 2, or 3 stars (1 = didn't like, 2 = liked 3 = loved) and write why you gave that rating, or draw your favorite character(s) and part(s). 
    • Book Prediction: Think about the characters and setting - do you like it so far? How do you think the story will progress? What will unfold? Write or draw your predictions. 
• Engineer something - do you have blocks, Lego, or similar? See what you can come up with in 20 minutes. Get creative by mixing materials. 
• Think it through - do a puzzle or a game if you have some at home and someone who can help. Think things like a Rubik's cube, puzzle, card game, or board game. 

...don't forget to clean up when you're finished!

• Use the Online Catalog search box to the right to explore books in our library and write down ones you want to check out when we meet next week! (Hint - this is right above my photo on the right side of this page.)
• Hear Stories:
  • Listen to stories read by famous actors with Storyline Online https://storylineonline.net/library/ 
  • Listen to author interviews that often include read aloud and live drawings with Scholastic Story voice: https://storyvoice.scholastic.com/streams/public (note: live events take place on Friday, but Scholastic usually has recorded events available to re-watch. Click "Recordings" under the banner at the top of the page.)
• Explore Google Arts & Culture Games and Puzzles https://artsandculture.google.com/play. There are so many options to choose from! A few of my favorites are linked below. You can also explore and choose your own.
